Manchester City and Riyad Mahrez are getting closer to agreeing a new contract, according to reports from France.
Outlet L’Equipe today writes that the midfielder is ‘about to extend his adventure’ with the Citizens, as he should sign a deal which will run until 2025.
The report points out that by entering the final year of contract with Manchester City, Mahrez had attracted the interest from several clubs, including Juventus, Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain.
However, it’s now ‘most likely’ that he’ll stay at Pep Guardiola’s side, as the discussions about a new deal are now ‘about to conclude’.
The positive talks for a new deal are also reported by Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.
He backs up that there’s a two-year contract on the table.
The reporter, however, makes it clear there’s ‘no agreement yet’, and just says the ‘discussions are progressing well’.
The same journalist had first reported Manchester City’s attempts to extend Mahrez back towards the end of June.
At the time, he had already been claiming the talks were going positively and there was ‘optimism’ about a deal.
Now it seems the negotiations are progressing and heading in the right direction.
