Following the news from England backing up Italian claims that Sandro Tonali was edging closer to Newcastle United, Calciomercato bring a new update.
They echo much of what has already been said, and explain the Magpies returned with a €70m offer after their initial one of €60m was deemed insufficient.
As things stand, AC Milan ‘continue to ask’ for €80m to ‘definitively close’ the sale of their star midfielder, but the general feeling is the ‘parties are getting closer’.
Currently with the Italy U21 squad, the player would see his wages rise considerably to €6.5m a year with bonuses that could help it reach €7.5m.
As from what Calciomercato have been able to gather, Tonali ‘expressed the willingness’ to accept Newcastle’s contract offer.
Should this all go through, and it really does look like it could sooner rather than later, it would be the most expensive signing in the club’s history, surpassing Alexander Isak’s deal from last summer.
The 23-year-old signed from Brescia back in 2021 following an initial loan for €14.5m, making this a huge profit for the Serie A side in just a few years.
