Two months ago, Calciomercato.it reported Newcastle United are in the picture to sign Atalanta’s Éderson in the winter market.
A fresh report from PL Brasil backs that up and then provides an update on this case. The midfielder has scored five goals and registered one assist from 26 games and is the Serie A side’s ‘standout player’ this season.
It’s claimed Newcastle have ‘concrete interest’ and are making moves to try to sign him in January.
Eddie Howe’s side have been in ‘constant contact’ with both the Serie A side and the 24-year-old’s entourage, and will also send a scout to watch him live in action against Frosinone on Monday.
Sandro Tonali’s suspension and Joe Willock’s injury setback have seen the Magpies look for a new midfielder this month.
The report says the Brazilian is the preferred target and has long been on their radar. They had even looked at him before signing Bruno Guimarães in January 2022.
Newcastle’s aim is to unite the two Brazilians but they will have to dig deep since Atalanta will ask for a fee between €50m and €60m for their player.
Atalanta are in the Europa League and made it to the Coppa Italia semi-final. PL Brasil say their aspirations for this season will make negotiations difficult for Newcastle.
The Tyneside club’s economic conditions, specially with regards FFP, can be another factor that may make it difficult for them to sign Éderson in January.
