It’s a case of so close yet so far for Juventus when it comes to Wojciech Szczesny, as every update from Gazzetta dello Sport seems to suggest some kind of progress, but a completion is still some way off.
We’ve covered the Poland international’s situation quite thoroughly over the past few months, with the Serie A champions keen on the Arsenal goalkeeper to eventually replace Gianluigi Buffon in between their sticks, but the Gunners’ asking price of €15m remains too much.
Last time we checked in, there was an ’80% chance’ of the deal happening, despite the differences between the two sides, yet it seems we have now reached a stalemate.
There was a feeling a few weeks back that a compromise of around €8m would see the deal over the line, but now Gazzetta are claiming that Juventus are refusing to go any higher than €7m, which is what they sold Neto to Valencia for.
We find it very hard to believe that the Serie A champions would refuse to pay just €1m more for the goalkeeper they see as the future of the club in that position, and there is still a lot of time for both clubs to reach a deal.
Furthermore, Szczesny’s exclusion from Arsenal’s pre-season tour is a strong message to where his future lies: away from the Emirates.
