It’s Monday, meaning the newspapers are quite full of match reports and such, but Corriere dello Sport have managed to squeeze out a little AS Roma-Bernard update.
They state there’s a ‘sprint’ going on between the Everton man and Stephan El Shaarawy over who can become Paulo Fonseca’s latest recruit, and it’s the latter currently in the lead due to his immediate availability and past with the Serie A club.
The situation hasn’t changed all that much regarding the Goodison Park forward, and the biggest obstacle remains the fact Everton need to ‘lower their claims on the transfer’.
Salary wise, the deal would be rather easy to pull off, as the wages cleared by the transfer of Robin Olsen to the Premier League would be similar to those Bernard would take up.
However, there is another obstacle, which is ‘another must go away’ from Roma’s ranks, although it will ‘not necessarily’ be Carles Pérez.
We’ll have to wait and see what transpires in the coming days, but it seems Everton must compromise somewhere if they want this to happen and not see El Shaarawy take Bernard’s place in Paulo Fonseca’s plans.
