Borussia Dortmund’s ‘sporting failure’ this season could help push Jamie Gittens towards Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
That’s at least if the latest from SportBILD is anything to go by, with them explaining Gittens could be on the sale list at the German club this summer.
The newspaper explains that there are stars in the current Dortmund squad who are thinking of leave if the club don’t qualify for the Champions League. They are currently seven points behind fourth place in the table.
A lack of Champions League football is something that several players would ‘find difficult to accept’ and Gittens is one of them.
Reports from England have indicated that agents are already moving for him and indicating a transfer is realistic and several sides have been linked as a result.
Tottenham have not appeared in the English reports but a report in February stated they are ‘ready to break the sound barrier’ for him. That was followed by a report three days later saying a €100m bid from Tottenham would not be unrealistic.
They’re in the mix as far as they’re concerned in Germany and SportBILD now report that ‘sporting failure’ for Dortmund this season could lead Gittens to the exit. Dortmund would be reluctant to sell but the reality is they will need transfer revenues to enter the market themselves.
They’ve even put a price on Gittens, insisting that he will not be sold for less than €60m. Whether Tottenham would pay that, particularly given Daniel Levy’s recent comments, is another matter entirely.
The opportunity may be there, though, with the sporting failure at Dortmund pushing the likes of Gittens closer to the exit.
