Manchester City youngster Tommy Doyle has asked to leave loan club Hamburg this month in search of regular playing time elsewhere.
That’s according to sporting director Michael Mutzel, who has confirmed the German club held talks with the Manchester City man before the Christmas break.
Doyle has been with the 2.Bundesliga club since the summer when he moved from Manchester City on loan in search of regular playing time.
He has not been afforded that, though, and several reports over the last month have indicated that the deal will be ended early so he can move somewhere else in the January transfer window.
There has been no official confirmation that is the plan, but Mutzel has now confirmed that is the Manchester City youngster’s wish.
“We had a conversation with Tommy before the winter break in which he told us that he wanted more playing time and that this was also the reason for the loan,” MOPO report him saying.
“This playing time was limited, so he asked to be able to end the loan. We agreed to that for the time being.
“Tommy is now looking for a new club. For the time being, we assume that he probably won’t come back, but we don’t want to rule it out 100 per cent.”
Despite the player’s wish, it seems there is still no official agreement with Manchester City to terminate the loan deal.
MOPO report that Doyle is ‘still on leave’, having returned to England for Christmas, and there is no pressure time-wise for a decision as yet.
However, nobody in the Volkspark believes the midfielder will be returning to Hamburg at this point.
HSV bosses are ‘relaxed’ about the situation, and there is no timetable for events, but a decision ‘should be made’ in the week after the city derby against St Pauli on January 21st due to ‘planning security’.
A separation between the two parties is ‘only a matter of time’ at this point, with Hamburg confident they are ‘well positioned’ should he leave and nobody in England doubting he will find a new club quickly.
