West Ham United are edging closer to completing a move for Southampton’s Mateus Fernandes late in this window.
The Hammers are said to have reached an agreement with Southampton to sign the midfielder for €44m plus €3m in bonuses. This has been reported in the UK, where it’s also explained that he’s undergoing medical tests with West Ham on Thursday.

Fernandes initially joined Sporting’s youth system in 2016 and spent five years with them before getting promoted to the first team. He played only 10 games for the Lions’ senior team.
He spent the 2023/24 season on loan Estoril before Sporting sold him to Southampton in August 2024. According to A Bola, the Primeira Liga club earned €15m from his move to the Championship club and also secured 10% of profit from his future sale.
Fernandes is now close to leaving Southampton for West Ham for €44m plus bonuses. If these figures are correct, A Bola reports Sporting will then receive around €3m.
The midfielder managed four goals and seven assists from 46 games for Southampton last season.
