Facundo Pellistri may seem forgotten at Manchester United, but he’s facing an entirely different situation at the Uruguayan national team.
The winger was mentioned in an interesting interview given by Ronald Araujo to El País this week. The Barcelona defender was asked about the player who impressed him the most at La Celeste, and named the 20-year-old.
“I think Facundo Pellistri is surprising. Obviously we know the quality that Fede Valverde, Bentancurt, Darwin have… we all know the quality they have. But Facundo Pellestri surprised me quite a bit,” Ronald Araujo told El País’ Youtube channel (via Somos Invictos).
“Especially since he hadn’t been playing. And more because of the level that he gave in the national team, that he was spectacular. Besides, we understood each other very well on the right wing. Facundo was the one who surprised me the most, yes.”
Facundo Pellistri joined Manchester United in an €8.5m move from Peñarol in the summer 2020 window. Despite a few months with the Red Devils, where he was even taken to the bench in a couple of Champions League games, the club decided to loan him out to gain experience somewhere else.
Pellistri then joined Alavés on a loan January 2021, and stayed there until this summer. In Spain, the winger made 35 appearances, but failed to get any goals or assists for the La Liga side.
Despite being in Manchester United’s squad this season, Pellistri is not being considered by manager Erik ten Hag so far. His contract with the Red Devils runs until 2025.
