With Moise Kean and Jean-Philippe Gbamin incoming at Everton, the Blues are now turning their attention towards a centre back.

They had been hoping to bring Kurt Zouma back from Chelsea after his successful loan spell, but that looks unlikely to happen. The Frenchman is being given a chance to impress by manager Frank Lampard and looks likely to stay at Stamford Bridge.

Everton will, therefore, need to find an alternative if they are intent on finding a centre back and that man could be Diego Llorente.

The Toffees were linked with the Real Sociedad throughout the early stages of this summer transfer window, although the last reports suggested that the interest from Goodison Park had gone cold.

That was on the 23rd of July, and there have been no updates since then, but Noticias de Gipuzkoa have covered Llorente twice in recent days and mentioned Everton on both occasions.

On the 1st of August, the newspaper covered Everton’s need for another centre back this summer and that they ‘could present an offer’ for Llorente shortly as a result.

A couple of days before they stated that La Real, alongside other Spanish teams, view the period between now and the Premier League deadline as a time of uncertainty.

In fact, an offer for Llorente is said to be ‘feared’ by Sociedad, with Everton stated as suitors alongside Liverpool. The defender has a €50m release clause, so presumably, that’s what Sociedad would demand.

It certainly seems that Sociedad believe Everton could come back for the defender before deadline day and with them tying up other deals this week, that may just happen if it becomes apparent they can’t get Zouma back
