Spanish newspaper says Arsenal signing is now ‘pending announcement’, we take a look

 

Oh Shkodran Mustafi, how you have managed to confuse the European press. Most of the European media now simply refer to the defender as ‘Mustafi’, tired of checking if they’ve got ‘Shkodran’ right.

There have been so many claims that it would be understandable if newspapers got caught up in them and ended up reporting things which they think have been reported which haven’t actually been reported.

That’s what appears to have happened to Spain’s Mundo Deportivo. In their Tuesday edition, the newspaper go with a headline saying: ‘Mus­ta­fi, pen­dien­te de anun­cio’

The meaning is that his transfer to Arsenal is ‘pending announcement’, almost as good as done. It’s sounds great news for everyone involved.

However, Mundo Deportivo have got their information from Germany. And yesterday, after claims that Germany’s Sky had said Mustafi was set for a medical, we did a bit of digging and it appeared to be a Twitter invention.

As sagas go, this one has got very complicated in a comparatively short amount of time.
