It’s always fun to see what the Catalan press are saying about Real Madrid, because they tend to go either way over the top to worry their readers, or target specific players to try and destabilise the team itself.
Since they have far too much respect for Zinedine Zidane (for the time being, at least) to do the latter just yet, Mundo Deportivo on Monday take a look at what the Real Madrid squad could look like by the end of the summer, and it’s certainly eye-catching.
The only signing in defence could be David Alaba from Bayern Munich, with an €80m deal touted as being in the works.
The centre of midfield is where most of the changes could be happening, with Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti and Eden Hazard all touted as possible transfers, going from right to left midfield wise.
We’re guessing the idea would be for Zinedine Zidane to do with Hazard exactly what Carlo Ancelotti did with Real Madrid, and chuck the Belgian in midfield as some sort of roaming playmaker to help Cristiano Ronaldo down the left, allowing the Portuguese player to drift inside more.
Mundo Deportivo say the Spanish giants ‘haven’t lost sight’ of the Chelsea star, but quickly remind their (most likely) Barcelona supporting readers how poor he was last season, emphasised by his first outing at the Euros for Belgium against Italy.
As for the attack, Mundo think Real Madrid could buy-back Alvaro Morata, as well as sign Robert Lewandowski AND Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Perhaps this isn’t that realistic after all…
