On Wednesday, Marca stated Unai Emery is pushing Aston Villa to hire Sevilla chief Monchi as their new sporting director.
AS state the Spaniard has received offers from the Premier League, without providing details of the clubs involved.
ABC Sevilla relay this claim and then state Monchi is ‘seduced’ by Aston Villa, who have an attractive project at an economic level to bring him to England.
Sevilla are aware of the director’s desire to leave the club after a difficult season, despite winning the Europa League. That’s mainly because of the ‘lack of autonomy’ Monchi has had in making key decisions in recent months, including Julen Lopetegui’s dismissal.
Over at Diario de Sevilla, they state the transfer guru has told the La Liga side about his desire to leave, citing personal reasons. Monchi, who has a termination clause in his contract, has asked his employer to release him from his contract in the summer.
José Luis Mendilibar’s side are asking for the clause to be paid and this could be the reason for the friction between the two parties.
After he made this request on Wednesday, Sevilla believe Aston Villa are the reason ‘behind those wishes’ of Monchi.
Emery is said to be insisting on having his compatriot at Villa Park. It’ll be interesting to see how this case develops in the next few days and weeks.
