With Jordi Alba this week announcing his departure from Barcelona, the Catalan media now starts wondering where he’ll play next.
Sport feature a story where they talk about the ‘options’ the left-back has this summer, and Manchester United are surprisingly said to be one of them.
It’s claimed that Alba has a few scenarios to ‘study’ following his Camp Nou exit. Besides the Red Devils, the likes of Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid and a move to Saudi Arabia are all mentioned.
Specifically regarding Manchester United, it’s said that the opportunity to play in the Premier League ‘attracts’ the player. What could draw him to Old Trafford is the good relationship between the club and his entourage.
Now as respected as Sport may be, we must say it’s a little strange to see Alba linked to Manchester United right now.
Luke Shaw has just had a great season, and even though he was many times used as a centre-back due to the team’s need, it’s easier to see Erik ten Hag going after a new central defender to fix that issue instead of replacing the Englishman on that side of the pitch. Additionally, newcomer Tyrell Malacia continues to show good potential there.
Even if the Red Devils went for a left-back this summer, it’s hard to imagine them signing a 34-year-old who had been losing his position at Barcelona.
