Manchester City and Barcelona are set to battle for the Borussia Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl next summer.

According to Spanish newspaper AS, Barça have been following the 21-year-old for a long time and have very good impressions of him. But Pep Guardiola’s late interest could spoil their plans.

The Manchester City manager has reportedly asked Txiki Begiristain to work on the signing for next summer, and Robert Fernandez is the one in charge of the negotiations for Barcelona.

CapturarAS says that Barcelona have no intention of entering an auction against Manchester City, since the English side have much more money to spend.

So the Catalan side would have to find another way in case this competition is confirmed.

It’s not mentioned how much Borussia Dortmund would want for the player. It shouldn’t be a low price, since he has just signed a new contract which runs until 2021.
