Ramon Planes’ departure from Barcelona is something that has been going around the Spanish media in the past couple of days, as the director has reportedly asked to leave the Camp Nou side.

On Friday morning, a report from Sport claimed local rivals Espanyol had made him an offer, and we even pointed out that it would be no surprise if Newcastle United were linked to him soon.

It probably took less time than expected, and the Magpies are indeed said to be one of the candidates to land the official. That’s according to a story from Marca.

They write that Newcastle ‘think’ of Ramon Planes and are now one of the ‘possible destinations’ for him. Marca say ‘there has been contact’ already.

It’s said the Magpies consider Planes as one of the options to be their ‘technical secretary’. And it turns out that the official is tempted by a move abroad.

Regarding the rumours linking him to Espanyol and Valencia, Marca claims this is not the 54-year-old’s wish. So that’s certainly a boost in case Newcastle indeed go for his signing.
