It appears that Southampton aren’t the only club looking at the idea of signing Morten Hjulmand, with West Ham United and Brighton & Hove Albion also interested in the Danish midfielder.
Over the course of the January period, it was stated that the Saints had made an €11m bid for the defensive midfielder, which was turned down by Lecce.
The Serie A side didn’t want to part ways with their star midway through the season, and set a price of around €20m for him, which will still be in place in the summer.
Fast forward to February, and we now have West Ham and Brighton thrown into the mix, with Calciomercato.it reporting the interest.
They explain that both Inter and Milan are looking to replace some of their players, and Hjulmand could fit the bill for either of the Italian giants.
That being said, on top of Southampton who bid in January, there are others on his case, with AS Roma and Atlético Madrid abroad.
Not only that, but there are other ‘English teams following in the footsteps of the Lecce player’, which is when West Ham and Brighton are named.
With Southampton seeing €11m rejected, and a reported asking price of around €20m, the Dane is a very affordable target for Premier League sides, and it wouldn’t take much for either the Saints (depending on relegation), West Ham (ditto) and Brighton (will comfortably stay up) to fork out that money in the summer if they want the 23-year-old.
