The Turkish football media appear contractually obliged to push a transfer rumour about Paul Onuachu at least once a week, but now it looks like the 30-year-old could finally be leaving Southampton for good.
With only a further season left on his contract, and the Saints having been relegated back to the Championship, there’s a belief a cut price deal will be available.
Given the good loan Onuachu had at Trabzonspor from Southampton, there’s been a great deal of interest in Turkey since then.
Friday’s edition of Sabah reports Benfica have him at the top of their list for next season, although they expect to pay less than the Saints are thought to want.
According to Sabah, Southampton ‘was expecting €15m’, and now they’ll have to settle for less. There’s no indication of what Besiktas think they can pay for the striker.
After they secure a move for Onuachu, Besiktas will then also try to sign Başakşehir’s Krzysztof Piatek and completely refresh their strike-force.
