Southampton are likely to make a second attempt to sign midfielder Morten Hjulmand from Lecce after seeing a January bid rejected.
That’s according to journalist Gianluca di Marzio, who believes the talented youngster could end up elsewhere in the Premier League despite the Saints interest.
Hjulmand has been earning rave reviews for Lecce in Serie A this season, establishing himself as a key player with a series of impressive performances that have alerted clubs to him.
Southampton are one of those who have shown an interest in him, seeing a bid for him rejected in the January transfer window as they attempted to strengthen their squad that month.
They’re not the only Premier League side to show an interest, with Tottenham also believed to be keen and watching his development closely.
A move to the Premier League is looking increasingly likely at some point and Di Marzio can certainly see it happening, backing Southampton to make a second bid this summer.
“Southampton want him. They offered 13 million euros in the January transfer window, but Lecce said no,” he told Spilxperten.
“I think they will come back. I’m not sure it will be Southampton [who sign him], but it will be one of the other Premier League teams.
“Even here in Italy there is interest. Juventus and Inter like him, but I think it will probably be a move to the Premier League.”
