Southampton are reportedly in negotiations to sign Tenerife striker Nano.

According to Spanish newspaper Marca, despite being the latest team to join the race for the player,  Saints are close to completing the transfer and Nano has already flown to England to agree personal terms with the club.

Newcastle United and Aston Villa were also said to be interested in the 21-year-old, but it seems like Southampton have moved quickly in this one. Nano is expected to earn €1.5m per season (£24k/week) on a four-year contract at the club.

It would be a huge hike in wages for the player compared to what he currently earns, but still modest by Premier League standards.

The striker had 14 goals in 35 games at the Spanish second division last season, where he had a rate of scoring every 134 minutes.

Southampton recruited Juanmi last summer and have already sent the forward back to Spain. When Juanmi arrived at Southampton he was a new Spanish international, but the transfer was a disaster for him.

If the Nano move is completed then the player and his new club will be hoping for something very different.
