While it appears that Southampton are on the verge of appointing Jesse Marsch as their new manager, the former Leeds United boss wasn’t their first choice.
That is, in essence, what Tuttosport are trying to push on Tuesday as, relayed by TuttoMercatoWeb, they claim that the Saints once again made a move for Ivan Juric.
Southampton’s interest in the Croatian manager has been quite a long-winded affair in the Italian media, with rumours of the Premier League club trying to bring him in appearing right after Nathan Jones had been appointed as Hasenhüttl’s successor.
This suggested he was their first choice at the time, and with the job now vacant after the ex-Stoke head coach was relieved of his duties, it’s only normal for them to try again.
It’s said that Southampton moved ‘after the sacking of Nathan Jones’, and ‘asked for information’ about the man in charge of Torino.
It seems the answer was negative, though, as it is currently ‘difficult, not to say impossible’ for him to leave at this moment in time.
That’s perhaps why they then turned their attention to Marsch, who was a free agent following his dismissal from Leeds.
