Southampton have reportedly turned down an offer for Lyanco.
According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, the Saints rejected Vasco da Gama’s latest attempt to sign the centre-back the summer.
The Rio de Janeiro side tried to get Lyanco on a loan deal, for which they would pay Southampton a fee of €1m.
Then in case Vasco stayed in the first division and the player took part in 60% of their games, then they’d buy him for another €4m, also letting the Saints have the percentage of a future move.
There are a couple of reasons why Southampton didn’t accept the offer. The first is that they didn’t like the conditions, as they’re afraid the player could get injured and not take part in all those matches.
The Saints also believe it’s too early to accept the bid, since the European market hasn’t even really opened yet, and there could be bigger offers arriving. It’s said the 26-year-old draws the interest from Italian clubs as well.
As Goal also covers the story, they claim that Southampton will ‘only accept a sale’ this summer.
