The season has barely started, but Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur already have their scouts working at full throtle.
Emissaries have been sent to the Champions League match between Benfica and Fenerbahce this Tuesday, which the Eagles won 1-0.
It’s newspaper Record who reports the scouts’ visit to the Estádio da Luz, although they don’t really know which player each official was watching.
Benfica’s winning formula was all about a great performance on the wings. That’s why fullback Alex Grimaldo and winger Franco Cervi had a pretty good game on the left side. Right winger Eduardo Salvio scored the winner and was picked as the man of the match by the local press.
For Fenerbahce, the defense did a good job holding the Lisbon rivals, as the Turkish side couldn’t really be a threat. Left-back Hasan Ali Kaldirim, defenders Roman Neustädter and Martin Škrtel and midfielder Mehmet Topal were those praised by the newspapers.
Other clubs such as Arsenal, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Dortmund, Eintracht Frankfurt, Juventus, Manchester United, Montpellier and Valencia have also sent scouts to this match.
Southampton and Tottenham scouts are often at the same matches, and the clubs are often linked with the same players. The latest being Stanislav Lobotka.
