Southampton midfielder Carlos Alcaraz is a new target for Napoli as they look to bolster their squad for next season.
That’s according to Calciomercato, who say that the Italian champions are turning their attention towards incoming signings after solving their managerial situation.
With Rudi Garcia now in place, the spotlight is on the player market and adding to their title winning squad, particularly with several big names potentially leaving.
The ‘new incoming name’ on the list is that of Southampton midfielder Alcaraz, who joined the Saints from Racing Club in Argentina in the January transfer window and impressed in the second half of the season despite the Saints eventual relegation.
He is ‘very much liked’ by Napoli’s scouting chief Maurizio Micheli, who has been handed more power on the market and started following the youngster a year ago.
Indeed, he had already spoken to former manager Luciano Spalletti about the Southampton man, and he was ‘literally crazy’ about the ‘Argentinian jewel’, seeing him as a Radja Nainggolan type player who could be the trequartista in his side.
His replacement, Garcia, is equally keen on him and likes the player’s ability to press high up the pitch and win back position, something that would fit in well with Napoli’s style of play.
Napoli are now ‘thinking about’ a move for him as a boost to their midfield, although there are several English sides also keeping an eye on him following his performances for Southampton.
