Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday both watched at least two matches in Portugal over the weekend, showing the clubs have Portuguese transfer plans on the summer agenda.
The two sides scout more Portuguese matches than most, which seems due to them both previously having managers from the country.
Ronald Koeman was at Southampton and Carlos Carvalhal at Sheffield Wednesday, and under the men it was apparent that Portuguese scouting took an upturn, and hasn’t decreased since they left.
Southampton watched Sporting against Portimonense on Saturday, and on the same day Sheffield Wednesday had someone watch Benfica against Tondela.
Then both clubs had ‘spies’ watch Braga beat Belenenses 1-0, report Portuguese newspaper O Jogo on Monday.
The standout performer for the match was Braga’s 25 year old Portuguese striker Paulinho. The Horta brothers, Ricardo and Andre, also performed well for Braga.
There’s no indication who either side were watching, but either people are getting free entry to Portuguese matches pretending to work for Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday, or the clubs have some transfer plans in the country.
