FC Köln striker FC Köln Damion Downes is closing in on a move to Southampton, with the move considered a done deal.
That’s according to journalist Florian Plettenberg, who report that Southampton have reached a full agreement with FC Köln for the 20-year-old.
According to his information, Southampton are set to pay €8m for the striker, but the overall package could exceed €10m. He is set to sign a contract until 2029 with the Saints.
A medical has been booked in for after the Gold Cup, with Downes currently a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s USA squad at that tournament. Once they are done with that, he will head to Southampton for a medical and to complete his move.
Plettenberg reports that both clubs are set to make the move official soon, although it would presumably not be until he’s passed the relevant medical tests with the Saints.
The striker, who can also play on the right-wing, joined FC Köln on a free transfer in 2020 and has worked his way up to their first team from the U17’s ever since. He has 13 goals and six assists in 42 games for the first team since moving into the squad in 2023.
