Southampton face a risk of getting relegated from the Premier League this season. They are currently at the bottom of the table, trailing 18th placed AFC Bournemouth by four points and are five points behind Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are in the 14th spot.
The struggles on the pitch have not stopped the Saints owners from focusing on off the pitch issues deals, including buying a new club.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who explain Valenciennes still remain Southampton’s goal.
The English club made an attempt to buy the Ligue 2 side earlier this year, when Southampton sporting director Rasmus Ankersen was leading the negotiations with the French club’s president, Eddy Zdziech.
The deal didn’t take shape, but despite this, the Premier League side have maintained an interest in taking over Valenciennes. The process of selling the French club has been going on for several months but Zdziech hasn’t managed to find an agreement so far.
Southampton are back in the picture and Valenciennes seem to continue talks with them over the potential takeover.
Apart from this, Ankersen is pushing agents of Ligue 1 players for the summer to try and convince them to move to the French club. L’Equipe don’t specify the details of the players but it indicates the Southampton director has big plans for next season.
