Southampton‘s Caspar Jander could leave the Championship side and return to Germany this summer.
The Saints signed the defensive midfielder from 1. FC Nürnberg in August 2025 for €12m and he was a regular this season.
He played 3,261 minutes from 43 matches and his performances for Southampton caught attention from Germany.
In March, Sport Witness covered claims from Germany of RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart interest in the 23-year-old, who isn’t happy with his life in England. Nürnberg, for their part, are pleased as they retain 10% sell-on clause.

Stuttgart still keen on Southampton man
It’s unclear whether RB Leipzig are looking at Caspar Jander, but VfB Stuttgart have him on their list.
That’s according to Tuesday’s edition of Bild, who report Stuttgart are lining up to sign a new midfielder.
The German club are preparing for Angelo Stiller to move elsewhere and have identified a few potential successors.
NEC Nijmegen’s Kodai Sano gets a mention as the Bundesliga side have a strong interest in the Japan international. They need at least €20m to take him away from the Eredivisie side and that’s too high.
Stuttgart, however, can afford to sign Sano if Stiller is sold for around €50m.
Apart from the Japanese midfielder, Jander is also on their short list to potentially succeed Stiller. Even in this case, a €20m is thought to be enough to convince Tonda Eckert’s side.
For now, the 23-year-old German is an idea, and Stuttgart could make advances if and when Stiller were to move elsewhere.
With Jander looking to leave the English club, more teams could come forward to sign him this summer.
Contract, value and agent info
The defensive midfielder has a contract with Southampton until 2028, and Transfermarkt value him at €18m. This is the highest value of his playing career.
