Southampton right-back Cedric Soares is gutted at missing the next international fixture for Portugal. With a foot injury, the player was left out of the squad and won’t be featuring against Latvia in the World Cup Qualifier.
The player has been injured since early October, having already missed the last call up for the games against Andorra and Faroe Islands.
Soares has given an interview to Portuguese radio station Renascença today, and talked about how it feels to be out of the squad.
“It’s hard not to be able to help my teammates, I really enjoyed being with them. The time in the national team is always excellent. But I’m sure they will be united and beat Latvia.”
Asked about having new chances in the future, the Southampton player said: “I always work in the same way and I will continue to do my journey. It’s not for me to decide. I like to be able to represent the flag of my country, it is a reason of pride.”
Soares has already missed five games for Southampton due to this injury, being four in the Premier League and one in the EFL Cup.
The player is now expected to be fit after the international break, when the Saints will face Liverpool at St Mary’s Stadium.
