There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Southampton forward Paul Onuachu will now not be signing for Goztepe.
The 30-year-old looks surplus to requirements with the Saints and there were reports earlier this week he was on the verge of signing for the newly promoted Super Lig side.
However, Sabah today claim Onuachu has rejected a transfer to Goztepe as the Turkish side looked to bring him in on a season long loan deal.
It’s reported Southampton had shaken hands with Goztepe on the transfer, but the Nigeria international is said to be reluctant sign for them.
With just seven days left of the Super Lig window it seemed the only solution would be for Onuachu to be loaned out to the Sports Republic owned club.
Throughout the last transfer window Trabzonspor have been looking to re-sign the Nigerian after his impressive loan spell with them last season.
The player himself had gone on record to say he wanted a return to the Trabzon side, but they were unable to meet Southampton’s valuation.
He’s contracted to the Premier League side until June 2026, and maybe he’s waiting until closer to September 13th, when the Turkish transfer window closes, to give up on Trabzonspor or elsewhere and accept Goztepe.
