Wesley Hoedt will be Southampton’s problem again in the summer, with the Italian media making it clear there’s near to no chance Lazio will sign him permanently.

The defender moved to the Serie A side on loan this season, much to the annoyance of some of the club’s supporters and most loyal media. Hoedt left Lazio under something of a cloud back in 2017, with it being thought he disrespected the Rome club in the process.

Hoedt acknowledged the issues on his return and said all the right things to try and win the fans back. That largely worked, and then a series of mistakes turned people against him again and he slipped out of the picture.

Recently excluded from the club’s first team squad, Hoedt has now found himself in the middle of new controversy. Lazio lost 2-0 to Fiorentina on Saturday, and a screenshot later emerged appearing to show Hoedt ‘liking’ a post from Sky Italia which covered the result, report Corriere dello Sport.

He’s denied it’s genuine, yet, whether true or not, it’s encouraged more bad feeling towards the Dutchman.

The 27-year-old has another season of contract left with Southampton, however, it’s unlikely he’ll play a part given his near-mockery of Ralph Hasenhüttl in an interview whilst on loan at Celta Vigo.
