There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Besiktas are looking to sign Southampton forward Paul Onuachu, which could be Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s first signing as the Black Eagles manager.
The Norwegian is on the verge of being named their new head coach following the departure of Giovanni van Bronckhorst in December.
Sabah today report on the latest developments regarding Besiktas interest in the Southampton attacker after they were linked with the Nigerian international in the past week.
Despite these previous links Sabah say the Black Eagles will make a ‘surprise’ move for Onuachu as they look to bring in a centre-forward in this transfer window. With Ciro Immobile reportedly unhappy in Istanbul, the Super Lig giants want to address this before the transfer deadline.
Only this week we covered reports from the Turkish press that Besiktas are looking to sign the 30-year-old and that new president Serdal Adalı has been working on a deal for the Southampton player.
Onuachu had a spell on loan in the Super Lig last season in which he impressed for Trabzonspor, scoring 17 goals in 25 games.
He’s made 12 appearances for Southampton this season, but has rarely started games. Onuachu is contracted to the Saints until June 2026.
