There’s a claim in the Turkish media that Southampton forward Paul Onuachu has asked for a transfer to Trabzonspor.
The 30-year-old spent last season on loan with the Super Lig club and there have been recent reports that they want to re-sign him.
Gunebakis today report on the latest developments regarding the future of the Nigeria international and say talks are ongoing between Trabzonspor and Southampton. Onuachu has expressed his desire to the Southampton hierarchy for a return to Turkey.
Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Doğan has also released a statement to say they are trying to get a deal done for the centre forward, but they aren’t prepared to pay the Premier League side’s valuation of €15m.
“Onuachu said he wanted to stay with us and communicated that to his club. His club wants €15m. We want to rent him, and negotiations are ongoing. There are other alternatives. We can also get two strikers. We are on standby for Onuachu. We want to put pressure on the club, with the player, and hopefully add him to our squad. It looks like the transfer will take some more time,” said the Trabzonspor president.
Yesterday we covered reports that the Turkish side are prepared to be patient in their aim to sign Onuachu and that they were hoping for another loan deal.
Onuachu made 25 appearances last season, scoring an impressive 17 goals. He’s contracted to Southampton until June 2026.
