With Sport Republic owning 80% of Southampton and a large chunk (70%) of Göztepe, it’s a surprise more deals between the two clubs haven’t taken place yet.
However, if Bolu Gündem in Turkey are to be believed, then there could be one in the pipeline this summer, with the Saints looking at Irfan Can Egribayat, currently on loan at Fenerbahce.
It’s said that with Southampton facing a return to the Championship, some plans appear to be in place already, including the sale of Gavin Bazunu.
The Ireland international may have conceded 56 goals in 32 league games this season, but he remains a talented player who could do better in a stronger squad, and therefore could be an easy way to make money in the next transfer window.
The outlet states that Southampton are ‘keeping a close eye’ on Irfan Can, as they ‘plan to continue’ with him ‘by selling Bazunu’ if they are relegated.
The one issue here is that Fenerbahce do have an option to buy for €1.5m, but considering how little he has played this season for them, it’s doubtful they will trigger that.
Therefore, it seems Southampton are already making plans for next season in the Championship, and they will likely be without Bazunu.
