Never expected to be a part of Ralph Hasenhüttl’s plans at Southampton, Wesley Hoedt was always expected to be either sold or sent somewhere on loan.

It took longer than expected, with few clubs showing avid interest in the Dutchman following his season with Royal Antwerp, but, in the end, Lazio came knocking.

The Serie A side, short of bodies in defence, turned their attention to their former player with a good week left in the transfer window, and officially signed him on October 5th, deadline day.

However, despite being in Rome for around two weeks, the centre-back still hasn’t undergone his medical.

That’s what Corriere dello Sport are reporting on Friday, explaining the 26-year-old will have it on Saturday.

In the meantime, ‘he trained for the first time apart, gentle running and mini circuits with the ball’.

The small worry in Italy is how far behind Hoedt is with his fitness, having ‘practically skipped all the summer preparations with Southampton’, but Simone Inzaghi ‘would like to bring him to the bench in Genoa against Sampdoria’ on October 17th.

This means the centre-back has just over a week to get somewhat match ready after basically taking the summer off.

A tough ask, and we’ll see if he’s up to it.
