During the summer transfer window, TuttoVeneziaSport reported Southampton failed with a late move for Issa Doumbia.
An offer of €10m was made late in September but there was no time for the move to go through.
It seems like Southampton still have a chance of landing Venezia’s 22-year-old midfielder.
Corriere del Veneto look at the Italian’s situation in detail. They note that while Venezia want to keep hold of him, they will not be able to reject major approaches.
The newspaper report – relayed by TrivenetoGoal, that Southampton’s offer for Doumbia is on the table. The Saints remain keen but are now also facing competition from Club Brugge, who have also made an offer.
Venezia would like to ideally keep the talent until June but they are also resigned to losing him, if the right money is offered.
So far this season, Doumbia has played 18 times in Serie B. He has racked up two goals and two assists. He also found the net twice in the Coppa Italia, having also played in the U21s European Championships in 2025.
This is his second season in Venice, having played 24 times in Serie A in the previous campaign.
Doumbia’s current deal runs out in 2029 and that is why Southampton could face difficulties in a move, with Venezia well protected.
