Despite the recent interest from Brazilian clubs in signing Lyanco from Southampton, it seems that possibility is now gone.
This is what is reported today by journalist Jorge Nicola, who managed to speak to the defender’s representative about his situation.
It’s first recalled that Lyanco indeed had the intention of leaving Southampton and moving to Brazil, which is when Botafogo and Vasco started talks to land him.
Botafogo gave up on the signing as they ended up buying another defender. And when Vasco tried the transfer, there was no agreement.
Speaking to Nicola, Lyanco’s agent and father Marcelo Vojnovic explained the situation.
“Vasco made an effort to make the deal, but Southampton do not accept the offer neither for sale nor loan. Thus, Lyanco will not return to Brazil.”
Southampton spent €7.5m to sign Lyanco from Torino last year, and it always seemed obvious that they wouldn’t let him leave so easily at this stage.
This season, however, the defender has been barely used by the Saints, with only nine appearances made so far.
It was reported that the player believed that in case he returned to Brazil, he’d have a bigger chance of going to the national team.
His contract with Saints runs until 2025.
