Southampton are close to completing a deal for Canadian striker Cyle Larin, after his loan spell at Feyenoord was brought to an early end.

According to ESPN, the Dutch club and RCD Mallorca have agreed to terminate the striker’s loan agreement. As a result, Larin is now on his way to Southampton, with only a medical and final paperwork standing between the player and a move to St Mary’s.

The Canadian forward arrived at Feyenoord last summer but struggled to secure a regular role in Rotterdam. He featured in 15 official matches across all competitions, scoring once and registering one assist. However, most of those appearances came from the bench, limiting his impact and minutes.

That situation has pushed Larin to seek a January exit. The striker is keen to regain momentum and visibility, especially with World Cup considerations in mind. A move to Southampton offers him the chance to reset his season and compete for a more consistent role.

He’s known for his physical presence, aerial ability and direct style. Standing out for his strength inside the box, he plays as a traditional number nine, relying more on positioning, hold-up play and finishing than mobility or build-up involvement. He is comfortable attacking crosses and occupying centre-backs.

Larin enjoyed the most successful period of his career in Turkey with Beşiktaş. He scored 19 goals in the 2020/21 season that ended with the Super Lig title. That spell established his reputation in Europe and led to further moves abroad, including La Liga and the Eredivisie. However, he has struggled to reproduce the same consistency since leaving Istanbul.

Larin’s arrival would add experience and physical presence to their forward line. The final steps of the transfer are expected to be completed shortly, after which his next chapter in English football will begin.
