Cercle Brugge youngster Kazeem Olaigbe has explained his decision to join the Belgian club this summer and depart the Saints.
The 20-year-old has been speaking to Het Nieuwsblad, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, regarding his transfer and the decision to turn down Standard Liege.
Olaigbe completed a move to Cercle Brugge at the end of last month, returning to Belgian after four years with Southampton.
He had joined their U18 side in July 2019 from Anderlecht Youth and worked his way up to the B side as well as enjoying loan spells with Ross County and Harrogate Town.
With no senior Southampton apperarance to his name, though, it appears he has taken the decision to return to Belgium to continue his career.
He had several options on the table, including giants Standard Liege, but decided against that move and instead move to Cercle Brugge, who finished second last season and sit third, a point off the top after six games this year.
It’s a bold decision from the youngster and he reveals he made it on the advice of his agents, and those around him.
“On the advice of those around me and my agent because they believed that this was a better project for me,” he said regarding his departure from Southampton.
“I am indeed a team player, but, if possible, I dare to take my chances. I hope that I can do that often here at Cercle in the near future.”
