Southampton want to lure Werder Bremen’s Leo Bittencourt to the Premier League this summer as they strengthen Russel Martin’s squad.
That’s according to BILD, who say Southampton have made an ‘attractive offer’ to the 30-year-old to tempt him away from the German side.
The newspaper reports that the Werder star could be set for a departure from the club this summer after a busy few years since arriving in 2019 that’s seen them fighting relegation, actually being relegated, making a return to the Bundesliga and managing to stay there.
That’s because Southampton, newly promoted to the Premier League, want to lure him to England and strengthen their own midfield.
They’ve reportedly made the player an attractive offer and there is a belief Bittencourt could be tempted after a roller-coaster year in which he found himself in and out of the side.
He made ‘financial sacrifices’ when he signed his last contract in October 2022 and perhaps Southampton’s new financial power after getting back to the top-flight could tempt him away.
The big question is whether Werder will sanction a sale as they’ve already lost Christian Groß and Naby Keïta is expected to depart after his falling out with those in charge this year.
It seems they may need to talk into a deal, something Southampton are at least perhaps looking to attempt.
