Southampton want to strengthen their attack for the second half of this season and have identified KRC Genk star Paul Onuachu as one of their targets, as per Het Nieuwsblad.

The Saints have made an offer to sign the striker. The details of the proposal are not mentioned, but it was deemed as ‘insufficient’ by the Jupiler Pro League side.

Southampton are ‘not letting go’ of the 28-year-old and there may be developments on deadline day of the January window.

Het Laatste Nieuws state Nathan Jones’ side are serious about the Nigeria international. They registered an interest in him last week and tabled an offer, which did not meet Genk’s expectations.

After seeing their initial offer turned down, the Premier League side are ‘prepared to go far’. They have ‘made a significant bid’ to sign Onuachu. Like Het Nieuwsblad, HLN don’t provide details of the offers made by Southampton.

The frontman, who has 17 goals from 22 matches, wants to make the jump as it has been his ‘dream’ of playing in the Premier League. At the same time, he also has doubts. There is no explanation provided on why he has ‘doubts’.

If Genk’s negotiations with Southampton come to a successful conclusion, they will have to find a replacement for Onuachu.
