Clearly trying to bring in another forward with their attempts to sign Nicolas Jackson, Southampton are also looking at new midfielders.
That’s what their latest attempt on the transfer market would suggest, as Salento News in Italy claim the Saints put €11m forward for Morten Hjulmand.
The Denmark international, currently at Lecce in Serie A, is a defensive midfielder that has already been linked with the Premier League, but his club aren’t ready to let him go for a small fee.
The outlet state the Italian club have found themselves having to ‘manage a respectable offer’ of €11m from Southampton for the player.
However, as things stand, Lecce are ‘ready to decline it’, as they aren’t ready to ‘deprive themselves’ of their star midway through the campaign.
They are currently 14th in Serie A, a good 11 points above the relegation zone, meaning they aren’t in danger of going down, but they don’t want to run the risk of weakening themselves either.
This seems to be one for the summer if Southampton don’t find anyone else, at which point Lecce might be far more open to a deal.
