This is why it isn’t surprising to see the club allegedly looking at all possible solutions, including keeping an eye on what goes on in Ligue 2 in France, with Southampton said to be scouting Gazéléc Ajaccio’s Fousseni Diabaté.
The 22-year-old forward is currently playing in his first full season of professional football, scoring three goals in 14 appearances.
Le10 Sport are the ones reporting the alleged interest from Southampton, who are joined by Werder Bremen and Rennes, and while Diabaté might not be the most exciting prospect in world football right now, that doesn’t mean he cannot do a job.
Just look at how the likes of Riyad Mahrez, N’Golo Kanté and Diafra Sakho (when he first arrived at West Ham) adapted to the Premier League.
The Gazéléc striker won’t exactly be expensive, so why not gamble a bit?
After all, he’s scored more goals than Shane Long this season.
