According to a claim in the Turkish media, Southampton and Fulham have joined the race to sign Besiktas attacking midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
There have been recent reports the former Liverpool player wants a return to England, leading to claims Sheffield United were looking to sign him.
Sabah today report on the latest developments regarding Oxlade-Chamberlain’s future at Besiktas, and they say Southampton, Fulham and Sheffield United are all interested in the 30-year-old.
As previously reported in the Turkish media, and mentioned again by Sabah, Besiktas are looking to offload the midfielder this summer as they want to get him off their wage bill. He arrived last summer on a free transfer after his contract expired at Liverpool, but failed to make a real impact in Istanbul.
The competition may come as a blow to Sheffield United in their pursuit of Oxlade-Chamberlain, given both Southampton and Fulham can offer him an immediate return to the Premier League. Recent reports had suggested the Blades were in the lead to sign him.
Oxlade-Chamberlain made 30 appearances for the Super Lig side last season, scoring 4 goals. He’s contracted to the club until June 2026.
