Southampton ‘flirt’ for signing – Saints said to have made offer for late deal

There cannot be many players who have been linked with a transfer to the Premier League as much as Moussa Dembele, especially without ever actually making the return since leaving Fulham in 2016.

It’s perhaps not an exaggeration to say he’s been linked to around half the clubs in England’s top flight. With his Lyon contract coming to an end in June, those links are primed to continue.

FootMercato now say Southampton ‘flirt’ with the player. The French website make it clear these claims are according to their own information, and it’s added Dembele has ended up ‘in the sights’ of the Saints.

Everton had been interested in a January transfer, but it was Frank Lampard leading the interest for the Toffees and with him having left Goodison Park, that track has faded.

Aston Villa have also been keen, although their interest is thought to be focused on a free transfer next summer.

Southampton are described as being ‘very interested’ in a deal before the window closes, and FootMercato have been informed an offer has been made.

Lyon could therefore make some cash before Dembele is a free agent.
