Southampton have made a new €20m offer to Rennes for forward Kamaldeen Sulemana as they continue to seek out offensive reinforcements for manager Nathan Jones.
That’s according to L’Equipe, who say the latest offer from the Saints does not include any potential bonuses.
L’Equipe report that Sulemana is ‘in the sights’ of PSV Eindhoven and Southampton this month, with both keen on a deal.
The Dutch side had presented an offer of €15m plus €2m in bonuses while Southampton’s first bid was €17m.
Both of those were rejected as Rennes are not keen on losing the player in the middle of the season.
That’s not put off the Premier League side, though, and they have now ‘come back to the charge’ in the last few hours with a new bid of ‘around €20m’ without bonuses.
Whether that is enough to convince Rennes, or even sway their thinking, isn’t mentioned.
It’s also unclear if PSV will be returning with a new bid to try and rival Southampton’s.
The Saints have improved their initial bid, though, which suggests they have not given up on the prospect of signing Sulemana before Tuesday’s deadline.
