Barcelona defender Marlon Santos, simply known as Marlon, has been on the radar of West Ham United and Southampton in the summer transfer window.
Manuel Pellegrini was keen on bringing the centre-back to the English capital club. Mundo Deportivo claimed the Hammers were in pole position in signing the player at the end of the last month.
But earlier reports suggested the two clubs could not agree a fee with the La Liga winners, which is why the deal did not take shape.
Southampton joined the race for the Brazilian and the same publication reported on July 10th that ‘Marlon was advanced with Southampton’. They also mentioned the two clubs didn’t agree a fee.
Barcelona want to offload the 22-year-old as he is no longer in Ernesto Valverde’s plans at Camp Nou.
Sport claim the player’s agent assured Barca he could get over €12m from an English club. Much higher prices were previously mentioned so maybe Southampton can be tempted to add another defender now the price is lower.
