Southampton may still be presented with an opportunity to get rid of flop Paul Onuachu at the end of the window, with a return to Genk a possibility.
That’s according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, who says the player is ‘still keen on’ the potential return to his former club.
Onuachu has struggled to impress at Southampton since arriving in the January transfer window and has subsequently been linked with a move away this summer as part of the Saints clear-out.
A return to Genk, where he managed 85 goals and ten assists in 134 games, has been mooted and a potential swap deal between the striker and Genk’s John Paintsil was on the cards.
That is now not happening after both players rejected the idea but Tavolieri reports that is not a definitive end to Onuachu potentially returning.
In fact, according to his information, the possibility of Onuachu returning to Genk ‘in the last days’ of the transfer window is very much a possibility.
He states that the Southampton man is ‘still keen’ on the idea of returning to his former club and the expectation is that he could push to make it a reality before the window closes.
