Southampton appear to have made an approach worth less than €4m for Lens striker Morgan Guilavogui.

That’s at least if BILD’s information is correct.

They cover the 27-year-old striker today. according to what they’ve been told, Guilavogui has plenty of suitors this month. However, despite him accumulating a queue of interested clubs, not one of them wants to pay even a few million for a transfer.

Guilavogui has been struggling with the French side since joining them in the summer from St Pauli. He was top scorer for the German’s last season. However, that was only at 7 goals and four assists throughout the campaign.

St Pauli have already expressed, via sporting director Andreas Bornemann, an interest in bringing him back. They’ve presumably got their former player’s approval to make such an attempt.

Southampton don’t want to pay €4m

Lens are happy to let him go, but will only do so for the right price. They’ve set the figure at €4m for him. Other interested parties have already failed on this front and Southampton are one of them. That would suggest their bid was less than the €4m being asked.

Indeed Southampton are specifically named as one of the clubs who are interested but have failed to meet that figure.

Whether the Saints come back with a second offer, remains to be seen. At this point, it seems St Pauli are leading the race thanks to Southampton’s failure to stump up the cash.

They do need a replacement for Damion Downs, who has joined Hamburg on loan until the end of the season. The fact he’s only on loan may explain a reluctance to spend money on Guilavogui at this point in the season.

Despite joining in the summer, Guilavogui only has a contract running until June 2027. That will be another reason Southampton are reluctant to even pay the small fee being asked.
