Southampton have agreed a fee of €15m with Bayern Munich for Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, reports Kicker in Germany. The 20-year-old spent the last season on loan at Schalke, but Kicker believe the Danish midfielder isn’t in the plans of Carlo Ancelotti.

Southampton have been actively looking for a replacement for Victor Wanyama, after the midfielder moved to Tottenham to reunite with Mauricio Pochettino.

There is no mention of personal terms, or medical examinations, but Kicker sound quite confident about the player moving to Southampton.

Update: The player’s agent Soren Lerby has confirmed the move to Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet: “Yes, I can confirm that Pierre switches to Southampton.”

Højbjerg could be a brilliant capture for Southampton, and it’s a bit surprising to see Bayern let him go, but then again it’s getting to the stage where his progress could be stalled.

The player has already made 15 international appearances, and had another couple of years left on his contract at Bayern.
